Tamron glass
Depression, my dad used to say, is like wearing shit-coloured glasses.
My dad was prone to glib statements and a low mood. As a photographer, it is interesting to consider depression-glass.
I took my camera out in the canoe, with a Tamron 80-250 manual lens and a Samyang 24mm f1.8 with the goal of capturing the dull smoke-haze from the fires up north. I approached the island, a crown with an orange globe over it. The canoe rocked in the waves a little and at 250mm I had to use a fast shutter. I got closer and the sun split the trees like an axe. The Samyang gathered the light bouncing off the clouds in a fan shape. I didn't notice that shape when looking at the sky with my naked eyes. If I told my dad, as I'm about to tell you, I film what I think I see, which photo would he think was closer to the truth?
